Permedion was founded as a not-for-profit Ohio corporation by a group of physicians in April of 1974. Their mission was to form an organization qualified to provide medical peer review and quality assurance services in Ohio. At that time, the company was named Region 10 Peer Review Systems. In 1983, the name was shortened to Peer Review Systems. In June 2000, the company changed its name to Permedion to more accurately reflect our comprehensive quality measurement and improvement solutions.

Since its inception, Permedion has held contracts to measure clinical and administrative aspects of care provided to Medicaid enrollees and Medicare beneficiaries across the country. Today, Permedion has developed a national reputation as a leader in health care quality improvement in both public and private sectors.

Permedion is certified as an independent review organization (IRO) for several states that have enacted patient protection laws, including Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wisconsin. We partner with government agencies in these states to facilitate fair health insurance coverage decisions based on medical necessity.

Permedion is accredited by URAC in both Independent Review and Utilization Management.  This accreditation requires a continuous organizational improvement process to meet strict standards that include effective, efficient review procedures to minimize the “hassle-factor” for providers and a quality assurance process that ensures timely, accurate reviews.
